I made an interesting discovery this week about morning routines. For several months, I had been reading a non-fiction book in the morning, during breakfast and my morning breaks. I finished a book before we left for our cruise last month, and since it was so close to the holidays, I decided to change up the routine and read fiction through the end of the year.
Although I didn’t make the connection until this week, I had a hard time getting motivated in the morning for the last few weeks. I assumed it was the distraction of the holidays.
Then on Monday, I resumed the non-fiction routine. Guess what? I had no problems getting settled into my work routine that morning.
When I thought about it, it made perfect sense. On the weekends and holidays, I read fiction during breakfast. I’ve been training my brain that fiction means day off, while non-fiction means work. No wonder I was having a hard time getting motivated in the morning!
Did you change any routines over the holidays which had unexpected consequences? I’d love to hear about them in the comments.
